School open events in Brentwood for 2013 entry

Parents selecting their school preferences for their children for September 2013 entry have until October 31st to do so. Following requests for clarification of when Brentwood’s state funded schools are providing open days and similar in advance of that date, we have collected the following quick information that we hope will help.

Essex County Council (ECC) advise that Brentwood’s primary schools do sometimes hold formal open days but “most will make arrangements for parents to visit by appointment. Please contact the schools directly for more information.” The following link on the ECC website lists all 23 state funded primary schools in the Brentwood borough with contact and website information for each school. Please note that four of the listed schools are Junior schools which are not subject to the same admissions process but you may wish to review them as they are follow on schools from listed Infants schools.

Secondary school open events are more formalised as they need to cater for a greater number of visitors. The Brentwood Learning Partnership (BLP) have helpfully published a precis of arrangements for each of the schools within their community. These include contact details, dates of events and, where necessary, how to arrange in school time visits. Each school, with the exception of the specialist Endeavour School, is holding one main event for which no appointment is necessary which will include multiple “headteacher talks”.

BLP are the collaborative group of the town’s schools. Their published open event summary is available below:

The only other state funded secondary school in the town is Becket Keys free school that is not offering non-appointment tours of the school for the stated reason of “high demand”. However, those who wish to visit should be reassured that demand is unlikley to prevent them doing so judging by the school’s first newsletter published last Friday which states, “if any friends or family, or members of your church are interested in the possibility of sending their children to Becket Keys, please make them aware of our upcoming Open Events.” The school’s website provides more detail and a form to fill-in to attend one of the tours.
